Frequently Asked Questions

SABAH-MM2H is a long-term visa program aimed at attracting foreigners who want to live in Sabah for a long period of time. The program offers a combination of affordability, natural beauty, and a friendly local environment.

Unlike the national MM2H program, Sabah MM2H is administered by the Sabah state government and applies only to foreign participants that wants to reside in Sabah.

Basic documents include:

  1. Completed application form
  2. Completed Immigrations forms
  3. Certified passport copies
  4. Proof of income and bank statements
  5. Health report and medical insurance
  6. Police clearance certificate
  7. Letter of good conduct from the applicant’s home country

Tax Incentives: No tax on income sourced from outside Malaysia.
Dependents: Spouses, parents, parents in law, children under 21, and certain disabled children may be included in the application.

Yes, applicants must submit a medical report and have health insurance coverage valid in Malaysia throughout their stay or purchase a health insurance within Malaysia.

If an application is rejected, the reasons are usually provided. Applicants may reapply if they
address the issues raised in the rejection. The fixed deposit and other financial requirements are only submitted after initial approval, so there is no financial loss, although processing fee undefendable.

The processing time for the Sabah MM2H application can take several months, often between 3 to 6 months, depending on application volume and completeness.

Applications can be submitted through licenced agents to the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment of Sabah.

Yes, participants can exit the program at any time. Upon official withdrawal, they may reclaim the balance of their fixed deposit after any deductions for withdrawals previously made.

The fees vary and can include processing fees RM3000 to The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment, visa fees RM500 to the Immigration Department Malaysia, and RM15,000 from SABAH-MM2H licensed agents for service charges. Rate may have changes from time to time.

Yes, although foreigners is required to acquire a valid foreign driving licence or an International Driving Permit (IDP)
To apply for an IDP in Malaysia, you can:

  1. Visit a Road Transport Department (JPJ) office or the Malaysia Automobile Association (MAA) office
  2. Fill out an application form
  3. Provide the required documents, including a valid Malaysian driving license, identification card (IC) or passport, and two passport-sized photographs
  4. Pay the application fee
  5. Collect the IDP on the designated date, bringing the original identification card or passport for verification

To buy a car in Malaysia, foreigners need the following documents:

  1. Valid passport
  2. Valid visa
  3. Valid international driving license
  4. Local address
  5. Payslips from the last three months
  6. Bank statements from the last three months

The car dealer will handle the paperwork and arrange delivery of the car. They can also apply for road tax.

Yes, although the process is through the Ministry of International Trade and Industry Malaysia.
Here are some conditions to meet:

  1. The applicant must have owned the car for at least six months before getting the MM2H visa.
  2. The applicant must import the car within six months of getting the visa endorsement.
  3. The applicant must register the car in their name in their home country.
  4. The applicant must apply for prior approval with the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of International Trade and Industry.
  5. The applicant can't buy the car before getting approval for tax and duty exemption from the Ministry of Finance.
  6. The applicant can only import or buy the car for personal use.
  7. The applicant can only sell the car after staying in Malaysia for two years. If they sell it before then, they'll need to pay back the import duty, excise duty, and sales tax.
  8. The applicant is only eligible for tax and duty exemption for one car.

Imported vehicles must be registered in the name of the applicant in the original country/domicile at least 3 years from the approval date of the visa SABAH-MM2H.

Applicants can bring their maid from their country under the SABAH-MM2H Platinum Category only. But the other category can apply maid normal procedure.

No, existing applicants can maintain with the old programme criteria but must go through The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment for renewal or if they wish to leave the program.

Diplomatic relations may differ between East and West Malaysia. Countries such as Nigeria, Bangladesh and Israel has no diplomatic relations with the State of Sabah according to the Immigrations Department of Sabah, Malaysia.

No, applicants can maintain with the property bought during the first application. Applicants only have to pay for administration and processing fee.
